The FACE Report

DECEMBER 2025

Message from Secretary General

Dear Members and supporters,

Thank you for your ongoing engagement with FACE’s work throughout 2025. It has been a significant year for Europe’s 7 million hunters, with several major European policy developments shaping the regulatory landscape for hunting, wildlife management, and conservation.

Key files this year included ongoing scientific work on sustainable bird hunting, progress on large carnivores, including the downlisting of the wolf, the proposed restriction on lead in ammunition, the Regulation on the welfare of dogs (affecting hunting dogs), and continued reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy with direct implications for biodiversity, including small game species.

FACE also maintained a strong presence in the European Parliament throughout the year, where several key decisions were favourable for Europe’s 7 million hunters. We were also present at a number of high-level European and international meetings, including the IUCN World Conservation Congress, AEWA, CITES, and the Bern Convention. FACE’s role is to ensure that these processes are science-based and recognise sustainable hunting as part of the solution to conserving Europe’s biodiversity.

Finally, as Christmas approaches, we wish you a peaceful and joyful festive season, and we look forward to continuing our work together in 2026 to ensure that Brussels decision-making aligns with Europe’s 7 million hunters.

We hope you enjoy the December report.

Warm regards,

Dr. David Scallan
FACE Secretary General
