FIREARMS LICENSING REQUIREMENTS IN ROMANIA

The regime of firearms and ammunition is regulated in Romania by Law 295/2004 and Government Decision 11/2018.

According to SECTION 14, art. 65 of Decision 11/2018, the temporary introduction of lethal firearms and ammunition by non-EU citizens is made only based on obtaining the approval for the introduction of firearms in the country, issued by the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Border Police.

The following documents are required for obtaining the approval:

  • the travel document attesting to the obtaining of a short-stay visa or the fact that he/she doesn’t need the visa, according to the law;
  • an official document, issued by the authorities of the state where the person comes from, certifying the right to possess the firearm and ammunition presented at the entrance to the country, unless the firearm and the ammunition is entered in the travel document by the authorities of the issuing State;
  • nominal invitation from the hunting association in Romania.
