About the event

The conference will discuss the opportunities and challenges arising from the EU’s proposed Directive on combating firearms trafficking, currently under examination by the European Parliament and the Council. The proposal seeks to strengthen the fight against illicit firearms trafficking by harmonising criminal offences and penalties across the Union, enhancing information exchange through National Firearms Focal Points, and reinforcing cross-border cooperation. At the same time, it raises important questions regarding its practical implications for manufacturers, dealers, economic operators and national authorities.

Speakers will examine the key provisions of the proposal – including new digital rules on 3D-printing blueprints – assess their potential impact on legal firearms-related activities and trade, and discuss how the EU can effectively combat criminal trafficking while ensuring that legitimate stakeholders are protected from legal ambiguity and disproportionate administrative burdens.
