FACE ist äußerst erfreut darüber, dass in Deutschland im Koalitionsvertrag zwischen den Parteien CDU, CSU und SPD vom 07.02.2018 die Überprüfung des Schutzstatuts des Wolfs festgeschrieben wurde. Was FACE schon lange gegenüber den Europäischen Institutionen gefordert hat, nämlich die notwendige Herbeiführung einer angemessenen Bestandsreduktion, soll nun durch die „Entwicklung eines Kriterien- und Maßnahmenkatalogs zur Entnahme von Wölfen“ erreicht werden.

From 12 to 14 October 2017, FACE attended a regional workshop of the EU Large Carnivore Platform in the Alpine region of Italy. The workshop was organised by the European Landowners’ Organisation (ELO) and EUROPARC.

In conjunction with their national partners, FACE and WWF organised a regional workshop of the Large Carnivore Platform in Bucharest, Romania on Coexistence between people and large carnivores: Sharing good practice in monitoring and communication.

The European Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FACE), the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC), and the European Landowners Organisation (ELO) condemn the recent decision of the Environmental Minister of Romania to unilaterally suspend evidence-based management of large carnivores.

By encouraging dialogue between stakeholders in the frame of the Large Carnivores Platform while at the same time pursuing an infringement procedure against a Member State with a wolf population in favourable status, the European Commission is assuming a contradictory and ambiguous policy on large carnivore management, creating at the same time the cause and the solution to the conflict.

In December FACE carried out a survey amongst its Members, seeking to give an overview of how hunting associations and hunters are involved in the monitoring (through sighting and or surveying) of large carnivores, and if this data contributes to decision making at national level (e.g. management planning).

At the 2014 FACE Members’ Meeting hosted by the Swedish Hunters’ Association, FACE Members agreed to sign the Agreement on the European Platform to be officially launched in June by Commissioner Janez Potočnik.
