FIREARMS LICENSING REQUIREMENTS IN ICELAND
HUNTERS RESIDING OUTSIDE THE EU AND WISHING TO BRING THEIR WEAPONS AND AMMUNITIONS IN ICELAND
As a foreigner, a person who wishes to hunt in Iceland, will always be hunting on private land. Therefore, he/she will always be taken care of by a guide or by the host (person who has invited him/her to hunt). An invite is therefore required. If the hunter is coming for reindeer hunting, an Icelandic citizen has to arrange for you the application for the reindeer quote.
The hunter will also be required to buy “a govermental hunting license“, which is sold by the Environmental Agency. No one is allowed to hunt in Iceland without buying it.
The hunter is required to have a short time weapon licence that it is valid during the time of his/her stay. This is arranged via the police.
Foreign hunters always need the help of a host to organise their hunting trip in Iceland.
