FIREARMS LICENSING REQUIREMENTS IN NORWAY
If you plan to travel to Norway to hunt, participate in a shooting competition or attend a collector event, you may bring a firearm with you under certain conditions. Before travelling to Norway, we recommend contacting your local authorities to verify whether you require a license to bring a firearm out of your country.
New rules for the temporary import of a firearm, firearm parts and ammunition without a valid European Firearms Pass apply from 1 September 2021 in accordance with the Firearm Regulations, sections 10-14 and 14-1, no. 16.
According to the new rules, you are required to obtain a license (permission) from the police if you do not have a European Firearms Pass and would like to temporarily import a firearm, firearm parts or ammunition into a Norwegian customs area. The person who is importing the firearm, firearm parts or ammunition must satisfy the minimum age requirement for the type of firearm in question and must have a valid firearm license from the country of residence.
You are also required to obtain a license from the police if you do not have a European Firearms Pass and would like to temporarily import a firearm that has been deactivated in compliance with section 27 of the Firearms Act into a Norwegian customs area.
Only the official application form from the police may be used and must be sent to the police district where you will be staying – no later than two months prior to arrival.
When you arrive in Norway, you must report to the customs officials and present the firearm and license (permission).
