On 17 August, FACE President Laurens Hoedemaker and Secretary General David Scallan met representatives of the Hungarian Hunters’ Chamber and the Hungarian Hunting Association in Pusztavacs, Hungary. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation on advocacy, communications and the exchange of good practices between FACE and its Hungarian members.

Discussions addressed the common challenges facing hunting across Europe, including the growing influence of well-funded anti-hunting campaigns in political debate and on social media. FACE highlighted the importance of coordinated communication, strong partnerships and closer cooperation between European and national hunting organisations.

The Hungarian representatives presented their ongoing communications work and requested practical advice from FACE on responding to campaigns targeting hunting. Particular attention was given to the Hunters’ Chamber’s “Get to Know the Hunters!” youth programme, which has reached several hundred thousand children and their families. The programme includes the Young Hunter educational and activity booklet and was recognised as a useful example of good practice that could be shared across the FACE network.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the situation and regulation of hunting and game management in Hungary. Current challenges include myxomatosis in brown hare populations, African swine fever, drought and the growing effects of climate change on wildlife.

The exchange demonstrated the value of close cooperation between FACE and its members. While national circumstances differ, sharing successful approaches and practical experience can help hunting organisations strengthen public understanding, engage more effectively with decision-makers and respond to common challenges across Europe.
