What future for other effective conservation measures (OECMs) in the context of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030

ONLINE EVENT – 4 DECEMBER 2023, 15:00– 16h30 CET

In the context of the Kunming-Montreal Global biodiversity framework and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) are an essential tool to achieve the nature protection targets, specifically with regard to the target of 30% of EU’s land and sea area to be protected by 2030. As OECMs are a relatively new tool in many Member States, the webinar aims at discussing with national, European, and global actors how OECMs have been used to protect biodiversity in a more pragmatic way while recognizing and respecting the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities.
