Open Letter to Commission President Von Der Leyen on wolves in Europe

Brussels, 15 November 2023 – The European Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FACE) sent an open letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, calling on her to move forward following the recent consultation on wolves in Europe.

The letter commends the Commission President for launching the consultation in September, gathering up-to-date data information on wolf populations and their impacts, but calls for action on the next steps as soon as possible. As President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen has the ability to take this forward.

The letter was signed by Torbjörn Larsson, President of FACE, on behalf of FACE Members, representing 7 million hunters in Europe. He called on the Commission President to ensure:

Swift action to establish practical management frameworks for coexistence.

Thank you FACE for this! Living in Finland in an area where the situation is unbearable with the wolves this is an important step towards a change. In our small area in Ostrobothnia arund the town of Jakobstad/Pietarsaari over 10 hunting dogs have been killed by wolves from august to october this year. Many incidents in addition to that. As a former President of the foresters in Europe I know FACE has a strong voice in this change! I am happy to support that.
