Blaser offers its customers real added value with the introduction of a pioneering surface finish: Diamond-Like Carbon A+ coating, or DLC A+ for short.
From the very beginning, Blaser has invested in new technologies if they improve products for customers. “It is in our DNA”, explains Blaser CEO Christian Socher, “and more than half a century of experience has sharpened our senses for sensible technological advances.” This has resulted in the creation of a state-of-the-art surface technology center in Isny, where, for example, R8 barrels and all visible steel surfaces of the new Blaser FBX shotgun are coated with the new DLC A+ coating as standard. “The latest example is the new R8 Professional 2.0 which comes with a DLC A+ coated barrel which complements other features such a full synthetic stock to serve the hunter reliably even the harshest conditions”, adds Christian Socher. In the future, all other R8 models will be delivered with the DLC A+ coating, too.
Precisely tailored to the properties of the materials used, the DLC A+ coating offers an extremely high degree of hardness and corrosion protection. The surfaces become highly resistant to external weather conditions in the long term, and the necessary maintenance effort is reduced. Another plus: the deep black, satin-matt surface gives the barrel a lasting elegant and high-quality appearance. “We are confident that this improvement will further increase the satisfaction of our customers”, adds Christian Socher.
Background DLC A+ coating
In a very complex and highly technological plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition process. A plasma is generated that serves as an energy source to activate gaseous precursor molecules and deposit them on the components to be coated. DLC stands for “diamond-like carbon,” which, when applied as a thin layer (18 times thinner than a human hair), exhibits properties of diamonds, such as hardness, smoothness, and resistance to wear and corrosion. The Blaser DLC A+ coating corresponds to the latest and best process technology in this field.
