02 Apr 2026 Ireland: Parliamentary Committee Discusses Sustainable Hunting of Wild Birds and Rural Pursuits
In conjunction with FACE’s Irish member organisation, Dr. David Scallan, FACE Secretary General, attended a meeting of the parliamentary committee responsible for environmental matters to discuss the sustainable hunting of wild birds and rural pursuits.
During the meeting, Dr. Scallan spoke about the key principles underpinning the sustainable hunting of wild migratory birds, with a particular focus on science-based management, the use of flyway-level data, and the importance of ensuring that hunting remains fully aligned with conservation objectives and the long-term sustainability of species.
The session was attended by representatives of the National Association of Regional Game Councils, alongside other organisations representing the interests of the Irish game hunting community.
The discussion provided an important opportunity to highlight the role of sustainable game hunting in Ireland and its contribution to conservation, local economies, and the social fabric of Irish rural life.
