17 Dec 2025 FACE takes part in World Wildlife Trade Conference
FACE attended the CITES summit from 24 November to 05 December 2025. CITES sets a legal framework to ensure that trade in endangered species is legal, sustainable, and does not threaten the survival of the species.
FACE, in close cooperation with its international partners, Safari Club International (SCI), Safari Club International Foundation (SCIF), the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC), Wild Sheep Foundation, Dallas Safari Club, and other sustainable use organisations, advocated for sustainable wildlife trade and emphasised the valuable contribution of hunting to conservation worldwide.
This summit attracted significant global attention, with nearly 3,400 participants taking part over the two-week event. This includes close to 1,000 government representatives from 163 countries, alongside about 2,000 delegates who have worked through 52 listing proposals and numerous working documents. The conference also welcomed 209 observer organisations, more than 100 accredited media representatives, and many local participants, highlighting the broad international interest in the future of wildlife trade policy.
Throughout the meeting, FACE attended several side events and had the opportunity to engage with stakeholders and government representatives, including EU delegates, fostering meaningful discussions. Among other notable events was the successful side event on the wildlife economy organised by SCI and CIC, as well as a side event on hunting trophy policies hosted by the IUCN Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group.
On Friday, 28 November, FACE co-hosted a well-attended reception for the delegates, creating a valuable opportunity for participants to interact and exchange ideas.
During the two-week meeting, FACE conducted discussions on key listing proposals, such as Bontebok, Saiga antelope, and Peregrine falcon, as well as working documents on livelihoods, and the Joint CITES–CMS African Carnivores Initiative.
