International Meeting of Hunting with Hounds

On 13 November, FACE participated in the annual meeting of the International Union of Hunting with Hounds (IUHH), hosted in France by the Société de Vènerie. Delegations from across the world gathered to discuss the vitality of hunting with hounds globally.

FACE Secretary General, Dr David Scallan, joined discussions in which delegates compared the situation of hunting with hounds in their respective countries and explored shared challenges such as new regulations, changing social expectations, and increasing urbanisation. The afternoon focused on four central themes from the IUHH Charter: preservation of hunting dog breeds, the cultural heritage of hunting with hounds, engagement with public authorities and stakeholders, and animal welfare.

These exchanges highlighted the shared commitment to maintaining high standards and ensuring the practice’s future. Delegates left the meeting with strengthened networks, renewed momentum for international cooperation, and a clear commitment to safeguarding hunting with hounds. The next IUHH gathering will take place in Portugal.
