EU Develops Position for UN Summit on Wildlife Trade

On 24 September 2025, the proposal for the EU decision regarding the upcoming Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES CoP20) was published.

This year, the 20th CITES global meeting (CoP20) will take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan (24 November – 5 December 2025), shaping the agenda for future international commitments on wildlife trade and conservation. FACE will attend with a range of partners.

The EU’s 27 Member States will adopt their positions on each of the listing proposals and the numerous other draft decisions on the agenda. Experts from the European Commission and the Member States have examined the listing proposals and other proposed CoP decisions, including their potential impact on relevant EU rules and policies.

CITES mainly concerns hunters regarding the movement of certain hunting trophies, but it also stands as one of several crucial international agreements that shape the global conservation agenda, establish conservation principles, and offer tools and methods for cooperation. As the EU usually forms a significant bloc at these meetings, it is essential that FACE actively participates to represent the interests and perspectives of European hunters.
