Animal Health – October Updates

Europe’s animal health policy has evolved over decades to combat animal diseases and now offers a good system that covers all animals, whether farmed, kept as pets, used in sport or entertainment, or living in the wild. The policy plays a key role in protecting both human and animal health and ensuring food safety through disease control, surveillance, and eradication programmes.

Avian influenza- General situation (last update 27.10.2025)

The total number of avian influenza cases reported by each Member State/Reporting Country across different epidemiological units (commercial poultry farms, backyard farms, other captive birds, and wild birds) is shown below:

  • Total number of Outbreaks: 90
  • Wild Bird cases: 40
  • Farms, Captive, Backyard cases: 5
  • Affected Countries: 20
