This event marks the 20th anniversary of the agreement between FACE and BirdLife, signed in 2004 in the presence of the EU Environment Commissioner. This agreement recognised the need for improved dialogue and mutual understanding between hunting and conservation communities. It also acknowledged the EU Birds Directive as the common legal basis for both organisations in their commitment to conservation and sustainable use of wild bird populations across Europe.

Since its signing, the agreement has provided a framework for a structured and constructive relationship between FACE and BirdLife, allowing both organisations to collaborate on areas of common interest, such as, biodiversity restoration, the conservation of migratory birds, enforcement of EU law, and the vital role played by rural actors in land stewardship.
This anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on two decades of progress and to look ahead – exploring how this relationship can be further strengthened to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. It is also a chance to highlight the value of continued European cooperation in shaping environmental and rural policies, and in delivering practical, lasting benefits for both people and nature across Europe.
