Technical Group Legal Affairs

This working group is made up of legal professionals who, as focal points in each Member State, have an active interest in both the environment and hunting. Meeting regularly, these experts analyse and explain European legal judgments and rulings and their implications for hunting, anticipating and reflecting on issues of public interest.

Next meeting: 13-14 April 2012, Palace of Justice in Milan, Italy.
Hosted by the Italian hunters, more information will follow.

FACE legal experts gather in Sweden: 13 October 2011

12 FACE legal experts from across Europe gathered for the 6th meeting of the FACE Technical Group (TG Leg) hosted by the Swedish Hunters’ Association at their headquarters Öster Malma.
Key points included various enforcement aspects of the Birds Directive, the relationship between landownership and hunting rights under the European Convention of Human Rights as well as the use of derogations for wolf management under the Habitats Directive.

The discussions on these topics served as an excellent example of FACE’s development of a strong European network of national legal experts – an essential foundation for FACE to respond to arising issues on behalf of European hunters.

Arriving in the middle of the Swedish moose hunt - an important tradition - the participants were served a delicious dinner with moose meat at the castle of the Swedish hunters. Some of the participants also took the opportunity to enjoy a well-organised duck hunt the following day.

FACE legal experts gather in Hungary: 14 January 2011

Hosted by the Hungarian Hunters’ National Chamber and the Hungarian Hunters’ National Association, this is the first Legal Affairs Meeting of 2011. Key points set out include the use of derogations for spring hunting under the EU Birds Directive and national rules on game damages liability – both hot topics of discussion.
