INVASIVE ALIEN SPECIES: THE SOLUTIONS

MEPs will join with European hunters, anglers, landowners and other conservationists to share ideas and knowledge and together find the concrete actions that we can take in order to achieve the related targets of the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2020, where tackling invasive alien species has been identified as key. Under the patronage of MEP Robert Sturdy, speakers from the European Anglers’ Alliance (EAA), the European Squirrel Initiative (ESI), the Australian Embassy, the European Landowners Organization (ELO) and FACE will share their positions briefly and join the European Commission’s Valentina Bastino and the MEPs in opening the discussion.

SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF CORMORANTS

Following FACE’s Cy Griffin’s participation in the stakeholder group meetings under the EU project ‘Sustainable Management of Cormorant Populations’ the Directorate-General for the Environment under the European Commission has announced the new EU Cormorant Platform:
This follows FACE’s efforts in 2008, urging the Commission to give clearer guidelines to Member States on how best to regulate cormorant populations and address issues related to economic and ecological pressures caused by cormorants.
